Malawi Bream Cichlid – Rhoadesii

The Chilotilapia Rhoadesii is a hardy fish that thrives in group, and make a really nice addition to a tank that needs schooling fish. The males have a brilliant blue shine on their heads making them fairly attractive display fish. They are best kept with less aggressive cichlid but be wary these guys do grow pretty big in the end. Overall a great fish to keep and raise and great for beginners into the world of African Cichlids.

This fish eats mollusks. Small snails are cracked between the pharyngeal jaws (within its mouth) while large ones are tackled with the mouth. It crushes snails mainly with its mouth. In the aquarium, it can be observed sucking larger snails from their shells. In the wild, schools of C. rhoadesii numbering several hundred can be found, with a single male showing breeding dress. The other males assume a female coloration. As a group, C. rhoadesii forage across muddy bottoms for mollusks.
