About Us

Although we are one of the smallest aquariums in Melbourne, we specialise in African Cichlids, Tropical Fish and Discus.  We are renowned for exceptional quality at unbeatable prices.
The store has a very long history and has been in existence  since 1985. The founder of Melbourne Tropical Fish, Dashell Johnson sadly passed away to Parkinson's Illness. The aquarium remained closed for many years after which his sons and a few passionate staff decided to reopen and continue Dashell's passion for beautiful tropical fish. So this is the "WHY", the reason this Aquarium continues to remain open, and in doing so it is simply to continue our father's passion for exceptional quality aquarium fish and to always keep his memory alive in our hearts and the store is a connection to our dad who is no longer with us. We still live by Dashell's values and pride ourselves in always being honest, and promise to always do the right thing by our customers by providing exceptional quality aquarium fish at affordable prices.
We have an extensive range of tropical fish and aquarium plants including tissue culture plants that rival some of the larger aquariums in Melbourne. What we can tell you is that we will offer high quality fish and plants at unbeatable prices, prices you will not find anywhere else.
In our father's tradition, we are committed to making the hobby affordable especially to families with young children. By supporting our little store, your are keeping healthy competition alive in the industry.
We are open 7 days from 11:00am to 5:00pm and also open on most public holidays except for Christmas Day.
Please follow our Melbourne Tropical Fish Face Book page for the latest updates.
We thank you for supporting us and we look forward to seeing you soon.
